Dremio + Preset

Bring self-service analytics to your data lakehouse. Preset connects to Dremio via Arrow Flight SQL for fast, open BI on Apache Iceberg, S3, and your existing data sources — no data movement required.

Why Preset + Dremio

Open analytics for your lakehouse

Dremio and Preset together give your team a fast, open, self-service analytics stack — from raw data in S3 to polished dashboards, without vendor lock-in.

Sub-second queries on billions of rows

Dremio's Reflections automatically accelerate your queries. Preset's built-in caching adds another layer on top — your team gets fast dashboards without tuning anything.

Native Apache Iceberg support

Dremio is built for the open lakehouse. Query your Iceberg tables directly from Preset — on S3, ADLS, or GCS — with full schema evolution and time travel support.

Arrow Flight SQL connectivity

Preset connects to Dremio via the high-performance Arrow Flight SQL protocol, delivering faster data transfer than traditional JDBC/ODBC connections.

Federated queries across sources

Dremio joins data across databases, data lakes, and warehouses in a single SQL query. Preset visualizes the results — no ETL, no data copying.

40+ visualization types

Go beyond tables and bar charts. Build geographic maps, funnels, time-series, pivot tables, and more — all from your Dremio data.

SQL Lab for exploration

Preset's SQL IDE gives analysts a powerful environment to explore Dremio's virtual datasets, run ad-hoc queries, and build reusable datasets for dashboards.

Getting Started

Connect Preset to Dremio in minutes

1. Get your credentials

From your Dremio workspace, grab your host address and credentials. For Dremio Cloud, generate a Personal Access Token (PAT) from your account settings.

2. Add the connection

In Preset, add a new database connection using the Dremio driver. Enter your host, port (32010 for Arrow Flight), and credentials to connect.

3. Build dashboards

Browse your Dremio virtual datasets and physical tables, create Preset datasets, and start building dashboards your whole team can use.

Common Questions

Dremio + Preset FAQ

  • Preset connects to Dremio using the Arrow Flight SQL protocol. The connection string format is: dremio+flight://username:password@host:32010/schema?UseEncryption=false. For Dremio Cloud with a Personal Access Token: dremio+flight://data.dremio.cloud:443/?token=YOUR_PAT&UseEncryption=true. URL-encode the PAT if it contains special characters.

  • Yes. Preset connects to Dremio Cloud using a Personal Access Token (PAT) and the Arrow Flight endpoint at data.dremio.cloud:443. Enable UseEncryption=true for Dremio Cloud connections.

  • Dremio Reflections automatically pre-aggregate and cache query results at the Dremio layer. When Preset queries Dremio, Reflections transparently serve accelerated results — reducing query times from minutes to seconds on large datasets. Combine Reflections with Preset's built-in query cache for maximum dashboard performance.

  • Yes. In Preset, you can add multiple Dremio database connections — useful for connecting to different Dremio spaces, schemas, or environments (dev vs. production).

  • Preset supports username/password authentication and Personal Access Token (PAT) authentication for Dremio. PATs are recommended for production use as they can be scoped and rotated without changing your Preset connection.
